Under a scorching sun, the bands scheduled to play during the evening at Festival Med underwent though their sound checks. It was by chance that we stumbled upon Capicua and her entourage tuning up their equipment at the Castelo stage. I had become interested in her music a while ago, and was looking forward for the concert. I wasn’t planning to catch them redhanded at the sound check, let alone being invited to mingle a bit with everybody in the team.

A few hugs and kisses, photographs and autographs later, we said our goodbyes and made our way up to the Matriz stage, right next to the main church. A rowdy Bosnian bunch known as the Dubioza Kolektiv were also doing their short soundcheck before returning to the shelter of the backstage. The church stood still and watched while these guys brought a bit of the Balcan dub to this Algarvian quiet town. There was still time for a beer, a few laughs and autographs from all the Kolektiv.

I was born on the southwestern-most tip of Europe, in Lagos, Portugal. A childhood of legos and sandcastles led me to architecture school, but an adolescence of doodling drove me to sketching and later to illustration. I like to sketch, to travel and to chop vegetables into tiny manageable bits. I also like maps. The older the better!
